No Eid for these birds, is there?

It's Eid in Bahrain
It’s festival time in Bahrain. The Eid Holiday is ongoing. People are out in their hundreds of thousands, meeting relatives and friends, greeting one another, shopping, going to malls, parks and eating – generally having a great time.
But as I wandered into the Old Suq in Manama, I saw these frightened chicken crammed into a small cage, waiting for customers. They would probably end up on people’s tables tonight or tomorrow who would enjoy a meal of tasty chicken stew or curry, biryani or machboos, or even mouth-watering grills.
No, I am not a vegetarian; neither do I plan on becoming one. But I couldn’t help but feel for these helpless birds, especially on this festive occasion.
There’s no celebration for them, is there?

I totally understand, my friend… it isn’t easy to look them in the eyes.

    1. It’s the same with any animal, isn’t it?

Yes, I cannot look any living thing in the eyes and not see a soul.
