Lunch time in Manama

DSC_5690This roadside restaurant does brisk business in Manama over the weekend. Hundreds of people, mostly men, eat at such stalls twice a day. Though it is highly cost-effective, with a full meal costing less than $3, the low price has nothing to do with the the rush of customers for whom it’s a tradition to ‘eat out’ at least once a day – and what better place than this, where they can get together to share a meal – and gossip!

Like the Khau Gallis of Mumbai albeit with no sitting arrangement for most people !

Yes, that’s right. It’s always a pleasure to eat at such places – we have plenty of these here!

Are there many such low cost restaurants there? This seems very interesting!

Yes there are. All over the place. And the food is cheap and tasty – mostly meat and fish, though!!
