As I sat on the coast this evening, close to where I stay in Busaiteen, Bahrain, I watched this lone seagull frolic around in the shallow water. Normally, there are several hundreds of these birds of all sizes together but today, for some strange reason, this ‘lone ranger’ was away from the rest of the flock, seen far away in deeper waters. Made me wonder whether it had lost its way and got separated from the rest or was injured. In any case, it seemed at peace with itself, happily feeding in the shallow waters as the tide receded.
Thousands of birds on the coasts of Bahrain are a regular and fairly common sight throughout the year but these become more visible in the winter when hundreds of thousands of migratory birds also arrive from as far away as Siberia to take advantage of and bask in the ‘warmth’ of Bahrain.
