Gentle giants

DSC_2268These camels are on “display” in Busaiteen, a part of Bahrain that is popular with those who want to be on the coast and enjoy the weather in the company of some of the country’s best-known feathered wildlife and the sea.

I was a bit intrigued seeing around half a dozen in a barricaded enclosure with scores of visitors, including many children, taking pictures and feeding them.DSC_6223

Though this is not the first time I have taken pictures of these gentle beings, the Ships of the Desert, I noticed a certain “innocence” in them this time round.

mamaIt was as if they were ‘posing’ for pictures, even trying to outdo one another in their eagerness to face the camera.

Camels are never seen in the wild in Bahrain but are common in the desert, where they are also in the company of camel herds and under supervision. There are also several camel farms all over the country, which are popular tourist attractions as well.
