It’s the summer and no better time to have watermelons. There are plenty available in Bahrain, and all year round. But when the sudden urge to have some came this morning, there were none found on the roadsides where they are usually sold, perhaps because of the beginning of the five-day Eid holiday.
So I had to make my way to the Jidhafs fruit and vegetable market where one can my a 10 kg piece for around $5.
The thing about Bahrain is that any fruit one wants is available throughout the year and not like back in India where some fruits, when out of season, cannot be found. So one ends up having fresh mangoes in the peak of winter or nectarine and pears, in addition to watermelons, in the summer.
