The weekend change in Saudi Arabia, making it Friday and Saturday and on par with Bahrain, might have been a windfall for the trade but has created a nightmare for road users and traffic police.
Though last weekend there was some chaos, this Friday and Saturday have been no less than the proverbial hell.
It seems most of the visitors from across the border are heading towards Seef Mall and City Centre, in addition to their favourite Juffair area.
This evening, like hundreds of others, I took more than one hour to move a kilometer from the Seef Mall to the City Centre and could not help notice most of the cars on the road had Saudi number plates.
At the City Centre, too, hundreds had parked on the side of the road as the several levels of parking inside the building were apparently occupied.
Clearly, while shop owners are possibly laughing all the way to the bank (finally), there are not very many (Bahrain) motorists and traffic cops who are amused at the development.
